Roles & Responsibilities

On 01 June 1999, and trading as UML Solutions, I partnered with IndigoCube (Pty) Ltd. (www.indigocube.co.za) where I provided professional consulting services to a number of their clients. Roles I had over this period of 13 years included (amongst others):

  • Agile Coach & Project Director,

  • Frameworks & Methodologies Consultant,

  • EPMO Director,

  • PMO Director,

  • Program Director, and

  • Software Development Best Practices Deployment Consultant.

Main responsibilities were:

  • Directing ICT EPMO's and PMO's at client sites, where I worked with and mentored their portfolio, program and project directors to effectively apply appropriate governance processes, frameworks, and agile methodologies in order to improve their program and project delivery capabilities.

  • Managing client-owned ICT software development projects, following agile practices.

  • Helping clients to recover troubled projects through the adoption of best practices for software development and agile principles.

  • Defining and establishing improved risk and issue management processes, configuration management processes, project management processes and project life cycle frameworks and methodologies – mostly based on a combination of agile principles and PM BOK.

  • Establishing and leading several Engineering Process Groups (EPGs) as "change agents" in those client organizations.

  • Building and deploying tools with which to measure “adoption rates” of agile practices across teams in those client organizations. As such, I could scientifically measure their "maturity growth" on each of the concepts / principles deployed.

  • Deploying various toolsets with which to support agile software development principles (like ARTs - Agile Release Trains) across a number of concurrent development / project teams, which also changed the ways in which the EPMO and release managers functioned.
